The Research block of the Pan-American Congress of Ophthalmology will be dedicated to the presentation of novel and relevant projects in ophthalmology and its different branches.

For this reason, we cordially invite you to be part of this space by expressing your interest and submitting your project proposal, allowing us to learn about the content and scope of the research initiative, as well as its impact in the field of ophthalmology.

The Congress Organizing Committee will carry out the submission and review process for the works registered in each category.

Subsequently, the submissions will be assigned to different national and international reviewers previously selected by the committee members in collaboration with the various scientific societies; the evaluation process will be conducted anonymously.

The evaluation process will be carried out according to each submission category: FREE PAPER, POSTER, AND VIDEO.

For these categories, there is a publicly available evaluation rubric, which can be accessed here. We strongly encourage you to review it in order to understand the criteria under which your work will be evaluated.

Please take into account the submission deadline for scientific works:

Call for applications opens: May 1, 2026, at 8:00 AM Lima, Peru time.
Call for applications closes: October 21, 2026, 5:00 PM Lima, Peru time.

Once Once the application period has ended, no changes will be possible. do not delete the submitted works.

The evaluation rubrics have been designed in a generic manner.

The rubrics are designed for broad and standardized use; however, submitted works may present slight variations in structure, in which case reviewers will have clear guidance for the appropriate application of the corresponding rubrics.

Only free papers intended for presentation in the Research segment will be accepted.

Acceptance of an abstract as a free paper (oral presentation) involves presenting your research or clinical trial from a podium. Each free paper presentation will be a maximum of seven (7) minutes long. At the end of the free papers session there will be a live Q&A with a panel of experts. Free paper submission should be limited to larger-scale, highly novel, or breakthrough research that will impact practice patterns. Single case reports should be submitted as a poster.

7.

Abstracts accepted for presentation at the Congress.

To present an abstract at the Congress, the author who will deliver the presentation must have an active registration for the PAAO 2027 Congress.

The presentation process will depend on the type of abstract. Please review the guidelines for each submission category in the “My Submissions” section.
